About

Michelle Morris has been teaching IB Biology, Chemistry, and Physics at BOYCP since the school opened 5 years ago. She has been teaching secondary science in the Chicagoland area for the past 24 years. She earned a Bachelor's of Science degree in Biology from Iowa State University in 1995 and a Master’s of Science degree in Biology from Northeastern Illinois University in 2005. She is dedicated to inspiring and encouraging young people about science and scientific based careers.

Michelle participated at the Shirley Ryan Ability Lab downtown Chicago. The BEST Fellowship provided her an opportunity to observe and work with Dr. James Patton, Dr. Felix Huang, and Eyad Hajissa’s current engineering research around rehabilitative robotic arms and hands. Through her experience she was able to observe many different engineering skills and practices first hand which she plans to implement for the students at BOYCP through the new STEAM BioEngineering course beginning this fall. She is excited to teach students about engineering and engineering careers in the Back of the Yards community by presenting engineering principles, building creative and meaningful engineering projects, and creating connections for students with engineering professionals as mentors and engineering programs at local universities like UIC and IIT.
