About
Lillian Wang is a science teacher at Benito Juarez Community Academy in Pilsen. In the upcoming 2019-2020 school year, she is going to teach Biology and also Anatomy and Physiology. In previous years she has also taught Physics, Environmental Science and Chemistry. She has been a teacher for 6 years at Chicago Public Schools in the Back of the Yards, Austin, and Pilsen community. Lillian moved to Chicago in 2013 after graduating from the University of Virginia with a Bachelors in Biology and a Masters of Teaching in Secondary Education.
Lillian was very excited to participate in the Professor Thomas Royston’s lab on acoustics and vibration and gain hands-on experience in a lab. In this lab, magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) is used to vibrate a subject or specimen to produce an image of the waves. These images are then used to determine the elasticity and viscosity of the subject or specimen and see how that has been changed due to disease or injury. After participating in UIC BEST program, Lillian hopes to bring her experience into the classroom by implementing more engineering concepts into her science class as a way to create interest and inspire her students to pursue STEM careers.
