About

Jazmine, a high school biology and chemistry teacher at Foreman College and Career Academy, holds a bachelor's degree in biology with a minor in chemistry from Northeastern Illinois University and a master's degree in secondary education from Loyola University. Her participation in the BEST program highlights her commitment to scientific exploration and the practical application of scientific techniques, along with her passion for developing engaging STEM inquiry activities for her students.

As a BEST fellow, Jazmine chose to work in Dr. Mathew's lab, where she delved into the biomechanics and tribocorrosion of implant biomaterials in dentistry and orthopedics. With the increasing use of biomedical implants to assist patients with disabilities, these technologies are crucial for providing comfort and supporting healthy physical activity. Jazmine collaborated with graduate students and researchers to investigate the corrosion-induced failure pathways in biomedical implants. She is now applying this experience to redesign her unit on rusting, incorporating various engineering practices and hands-on activities to enhance her students' learning experience.
